All the passes for the Field Museum were gone...

Highlights:
Violet had a question for the man showing the 2011 FORD Mustang. She, oh so politely, asked him "Where is Subaru?" Her next question: How does the engine make the wheels turn? The very kind Mustang Man gave her a tutorial on the internal combustion engine. She thanked him, and told him it had been very nice talking with him.

The Belgian Malanois was so delightful. Violet queried the police officer as to the nature of their relationship.

And now, I must away. Violet has asked for a logic lesson. On Saturday.

Violet always has to have the final word on things, and she'll shut down the conversation to get it. I don't know that this will translate into the written word so well, but here it goes.

When she asks you to do something, she answers for you. Example:

"Violet watch a movie? You will? Great!"

When she corrects you, it goes like thus:

Say I tell her that a planet we're looking at is Neptune. She disagrees:

"Noooo! Not Neptuuuuune, the MOOOON, yeah, ok!"

I noticed today that everytime I would come in the room, she would say "DUMP TRUCK!" Which is a little more like "bump truck, or pump truck". So I asked her if I was the Dump Truck. She laid this out for me:

Daddy: Blue truck

Shepherd: Bulldozer
Finnegan: Cement mixer (which she totally mangles, but I figured it out)
and Violet? I asked, "And what are you, Violet?" I'm a STEAM ROLLER! No kidding, kid.

"Oh no, it's broken. We need the Mouseketools. Oh Tooooodles! Oh TOOOODLES!!!"

Then, this evening she said to me:

"Whatchoo talkin' bout mama?" Though I'm pretty sure she's never seen Different Strokes.

1) When Violet becomes frustrated or confused she says "OH NO! What should I doooo?"

2) Finnegan says "No" now. Very sincerely, with a head shake for good measure. It thus far has never bothered me when either child says no. I think it is impossibly cute.

3) Conversations with Finnegan:

Finn: Mama, mama, mama, mama, mama, mama, mama

Mama: Yes, Finnegan???!!

Finn: Hi, Mama.

4) Things Violet has apparently picked up from TV

"Great Job, Mama!" (making dinner or whatnot)
"Great counting, everybody"

5) I brought Violet home some underpants. Her response? "Oh thanks, Mama! Thanks a lot. They're so beauuuutiful. Beautiful socks."

6) When Violet becomes upset, she often asks for a pot (to throw up in). Which comes out like this "Need pot." To which Conor responds, "Yeah, me too, Violet." Violet doesn't actually then throw up in the pot. She spits in it, and then demands it be removed from her presence. Conor tried to pass off a bowl on her. To which she responded "That's a bowl." She's picky about where she spits I guess.

Violet's favorite instrument is now the BANJO. The banjo. Makes for some very festive ho-downs round these parts. We went through 3 toll booths the other day blasting "I'll Fly Away" a la Oh Brother, Where Art Thou. The first thing you get over as a parent (other than an aversion to other people's bodily fluids) is the tendency to be mortified. As I would have been, had I not had children. In fact, you can use the children as tiny scapegoats for guilty pleasures in music choices.

1) Finnegan L O V E S pandas. Don't know why. Loves 'em. Pretty fond of owls too.

2) Violet has 2 favorite songs. a) Morning Has Broken (a la Cat Stevens) and b) Puff the Magic Dragon. By "favorite songs" I mean we currently listen to 2 songs in the car. When one is over, it must be immediately restarted.

3) I gave Violet a piece of Reese's Peanut Butter cup the other day. She took it in her little fingers. Looked at it. Looked at me. Looked at it. Looked at me. And asked "poopies?"

4) Speaking of poopies. She has always called Winnie the Pooh "Poop", but then we got a potty with Pooh and Tigger on it. She's now convinced that somehow "Poopie Bear" has something to do with bathroom habits.

5) We're currently big on the alphabet around here. Well on our way toward mastering the capital/lowercase quandry.
